Director's Notes
Welcome back everyone! We hope your "re-entry" is an easy one. This is a special issue of All Access with important conference deadlines and dates, as well as other news and information from the sector.
Please note that our very affordable early bird registration rate expires on Friday, September 9th. Programming for The Culture of Curation is almost complete, and private showcase listings will appear on the website in the coming days. We look forward to welcoming you to Toronto in November for this exciting and memorable conference ! A new addition this year is our "
Former Board Member Appreciation Reception", an event which will honour the important contributions of those who have helped to shape CAPACOA over the decades. Invitations for this special celebration will be going out soon.
Please take a moment to consider nominating your colleagues for the CAPACOA and NAC awards this year. Celebrating individual achievements as a community is an important and meaningful opportunity for us all.
Finally, a few upcoming items of note to watch for as we inch closer to the fall season:
All the best for the "official end of summer" and the conference season upon us,
Erin Benjamin

Cultural Diversity and the Arts
“Arts experiences are a valuable way of bringing together people from different languages and cultural traditions”.
This is one of the messages CAPACOA conveyed to Members of Parliament in a meeting convened by the Honourable Jim Karyagiannis, Liberal Multiculturalism Critic, as part of consultations with community stakeholders. CAPACOA's presentation
demonstrated how the arts can "help promote tolerance and recognition of others and help contribute to intercultural understanding", thereby fostering a sense of Canadian identity. Participants in the meeting were very receptive.

Presenters Engage in Dialogue with MPs
Three presenters mentioned in CAPACOA's brief to the Standing Committee on Finance - Festival du Voyageur, the Maclab Centre for the Performing Arts and the Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre - have scheduled meetings with their MPs to inform them about the positive impacts of public arts funding and about the difference that presenters make in their communities. We want to thank all three for taking part in their democracy.
Learn more about how you can also get involved by reading Developing relationships with Members of Parliament or by attending "Being the Change You Wish to See in the World", Katherine Carleton's workshop at Contact East 2011.
